Today is my birthday, and in honor of this special day, I’m giving away free preview copies to the first 50 people to fill out and submit this form. I’m also well aware that it’s tax day, so hopefully this should ease the pain a little bit.

So sign up . . . you know you want to!

I’ll close the form when I get 50 entries, so if you can see the form, the giveaway is still open and you will get your book! Once I get all the entries, I’ll send out an e-mail with details (so watch for it and check your junk mail folder if you don’t get anything).

Happy Halloween, everyone. From my safe, warm, dry home in NorCal, I feel a bit guilty to be writing about a fun holiday when so many of my friends and family are dealing with the utter destruction of Hurricane Sandy. My sister’s house has 2.5 feet of water in it, and my parents-in-law are dealing with a downed power line on their property, so all is not a bed of roses. To make matters worse, I can’t do anything from across the country except call (all of the airports are closed, and even if I were there, I don’t know what I could do to help, since the flooding is still pretty extensive).

Sigh.

I guess the only thing I can do is to get happy-ish about Halloween. We carved a jack-o-lantern, we have plenty of chocolate candy to give away, my kids are in adorable costumes, and it looks like it’s going to be a fine night for trick or treating.

And here’s something really scary: I am guest blogging at Guilty Pleasures today with a spooky excerpt from Deep Autumn Heat, which just happens to take place on Halloween night! Couldn’t have planned that one better if I’d tried. You can win a rare paper copy of the book just by leaving a comment. I’m also still running my Goodreads giveaway for Blaze of Winter, so please stop on by and register to win one of 5 paper copies I’m giving out. On the writing front, I’ve begun my edits for Long Simmering Spring – hooray! And to round out the Star Harbor fun, I found out that my official release date for Slow Summer Burn is August 12, 2013.

Happy Halloween, indeed.

And to all those folks cleaning up from Sandy: Be safe and hang in there! You are in my thoughts and prayers!

The contest is over and I have chosen a winner (randomly, using one of those random picker things), and Marie Haney is the lucky winner! Marie will be getting a lot of 2-3 books from my RWA swag bag! Thank to everyone who left a comment, and please stay tuned for more contests!

******************************************************************************************************************************

As part of the lead-up to the release for Blaze of Winter (Theo’s story) on September 10th, I am thrilled to announce that I will be doing a series of giveaways. I have so much great stuff to send out into the world! It all started when I went to RWA (the Romance Writers of America National Conference), and returned home with a huge bag of swag:

This ginormous “bag of happiness” is filled to bursting with delicious novels, just waiting to be opened and read, and includes books that span a broad range of genres: historical, paranormal, contemporary, series, women’s fiction, fantasy, and more!!

Okay, okay, I’ll calm down.

*Takes deep breath.*

There. I’ve composed myself. Mostly.

Simply because of sheer volume (there were some books I had to remove just to get a good shot of this beast), I’ll be dividing this beautiful monster up into lots of 2-3 books, probably by genre. If you win, you can tell me what kind of books you like best, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

I’ve also got some awesome Loveswept goodies – a few paper ARCs from Loveswept authors (*cough* Ruthie Knox *cough*) and some Loveswept gift cards good for free books! Plus, the latest books from Robyn Carr. You won’t want to miss anything over the next month!

Oh, and if you’re really eager to get your hands on Blaze of Winter early, definitely follow me on my official blog tour, where I’ll be giving away a NetGalley preview copy of the book at almost every stop!

Okay, but for today, I need to figure out to whom I should give the first batch of goodies, which will be a lot of 2-3 books from my RWA swag bag. Since I’ve been on a kindergarten kick (my oldest started last week, and you can read the saga of getting him registered here), why don’t you tell me your most interesting kindergarten experience? For those of us who have trouble remembering our own kindergarten experiences, feel free to share an interesting kindergarten experience of a friend or family member.

Rules:

(1) Winner must be a member of my mailing list. Please sign up for my mailing list here.

(2) In the comments section below, tell me your most interesting kindergarten experience / kindergarten experience of a friend or family member.

(3) One random commenter will be selected.

(4) U.S. only, please! (I’ll be shipping paperbacks).

(5) Contest ends 8/31 at midnight, PDT.

Can’t wait to hear your stories!

My debut release week for Deep Autumn Heat is drawing to a close! Thank you to everyone who made it such a success – my agent, editors, family, and best of all, readers! Wow, it feels really weird to say that, but I realize that now I have readers. It’s amazing and humbling and, to be honest, kind of surreal. I’ve gotten several notes, emails and tweets from people who love my writing, and I still do a happy dance every time I get one! Deep Autumn Heat actually hit the Top 100 Nook Books (at Barnes and Noble), which was awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Should have warned you about all those exclamation points before you read that paragraph, hm? Sorry, but you have to admit, I’m kind of justified in being excited. It’s been a week of highs, and I’m hoping to hold onto this amazing feeling through the end of the month, when I’ll be attending the RWA National Conference in Anaheim, California. I’ll actually be doing my first book signing for Deep Autumn Heat at the “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing, which is free and open to the public.

The Literacy Autographing will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center, and will take place Wednesday, July 25, 2012, from 5–8 p.m. PT in the Ballroom (third floor) at the convention center. The event is free and open to the public, but no outside books will be allowed in (from attendees, not signing authors). Proceeds from book sales go to ProLiteracy Worldwide, Read Orange County, and Literacy Volunteers—Huntington Valley. If you’re in the area, please consider stopping by this incredible event. I’ll be sitting at Table 802 and would love to meet you!

If you’d like to “meet” me sooner, this coming Tuesday, July 17th from 6-7pm Eastern, I’m participating in a live Twitter chat. The theme is Loveswept Heroes (hashtag #LovesweptHeroes), and I’ll be featured, along with Jessica Scott, Ruthie KnoxSamantha Kane, and Megan Frampton. Moderated by the inestimable Sue Grimshaw, you can ask us whatever questions you like (within reason!), and get free books! Please stop by with your questions about Sebastian Grayson – I’d love to chat with you.

So yes, big week – huge week – and there’s much more to come, including a special announcement very, very soon!
